“E eu gosto de ti até à ponta dos teus pés.”, disse a grande lebre cor de avelã, balançando-a no ar.
“Gosto de ti tão alto quanto consigo saltar!”, disse a pequena lebre cor de avelã rindo e saltitando.
“Mas eu gosto de ti tão alto quanto eu consigo saltar.”, sorriu a grande lebre cor de avelã e saltou tão alto que as suas orelhas tocaram nos ramos da árvore.

Que belos saltos, pensou a pequena lebre cor de avelã. Quem me dera conseguir saltar assim. “Gosto de ti por aquele caminho abaixo, até ao rio.”, gritou a pequena lebre cor de avelã.
“Gosto de ti até depois do rio e das montanhas.”, disse a grande lebre cor de avelã.

Isso é muito longe, pensou a pequena lebre cor de avelã. Já estava tão ensonada que mal conseguia pensar. Então, olhou a grande noite escura por entre os arbustos. Nada poderia estar tão longe quanto o céu. “Gosto de ti até à Lua.”, disse, fechando os olhos.
“Oh, isso é longe.”, disse a grande lebre cor de avelã. “Isso é mesmo muito longe.” A grande lebre cor de avelã deitou a pequena lebre cor de avelã na sua cama de folhas. Inclinou-se sobre ela e deu-lhe um beijo de boas-noites.
Então, deitou-se bem perto e sussurrou com um sorriso “Gosto de ti até à Lua… e de volta até à Terra.”
